Preview: 2016 U.S. Open: DJ’s Major Redemption

The U.S. Open highlight film makes its debut on Thanksgiving at 3 pm ET on Fox.

Considering what happened Sunday, it's a bit of a surprise that Dustin Johnson's run-in with the Rules of Golf did not make it in the preview press release. But the release promises candid interviews and behind-the-scenes access, so maybe we'll get a close look at what happened or hear from the rules official on the scene. I know, doubtful.

In an ideal world, the credits would be USGA President Diana Murphy's trophy ceremony homage to Foster Brooks.  Something tells me those tapes have been burned.

acclaimed actor Andre Braugher narrates story of intense competition at historic venue

FAR HILLS, N.J. (Nov. 22, 2016) – The United States Golf Association (USGA) and FOX Sports will unveil their film, 2016 U.S. Open: DJ’s Major Redemption, on Thanksgiving Day in celebration of the 116th U.S. Open Championship.

Narrated by Emmy Award-winning actor Andre Braugher, the hour-long film will debut on Thursday, Nov. 24, on FOX (3 p.m. EST; check local listings) prior to the nationally-televised NFL game between the Washington Redskins and Dallas Cowboys. Additional airing dates and times can be found below and here.

2016 U.S. Open: DJ’s Major Redemption chronicles Dustin Johnson’s journey to the thrilling conclusion of this year’s championship, held in June at historic Oakmont Country Club, in suburban Pittsburgh, Pa. Hosting the U.S. Open for a record ninth time, the storied H.C. Fownes-designed layout served as the perfect backdrop for Johnson to capture the major championship that had eluded him in 28 previous attempts.

After a series of heartbreaking close calls, including a second-place finish in the 2015 U.S. Open at Chambers Bay outside of Seattle, Johnson entered the 2016 championship determined to wipe out the memory of his previous disappointments.

Through candid interviews that take viewers behind the scenes, the film tells the story of Johnson and 155 other competitors who battled one of golf’s ultimate tests in pursuit of the coveted championship.

“Dustin exhibited all the characteristics of a true U.S. Open champion – his professionalism, skill and endurance through so many challenges – and we couldn’t be more proud of him,” said Diana Murphy, USGA president. “This film will provide viewers with a perspective that few get to see first-hand, as the golfers strive to secure their place among the all-time greats.”

2016 U.S. Open: DJ’s Major Redemption highlights the storylines, inspirational moments and spirited performances of the 116th championship. Exclusive interviews featuring Johnson, co-runner-up Shane Lowry and underdog Andrew Landry – who won over the crowds by taking the first-round lead and contending into Sunday – are complemented by commentary from FOX Sports’ Shane Bacon, Brad Faxon, Scott McCarron and two-time U.S. Open champion Curtis Strange.
