Men's Olympic Golf: Day 2 Recap, Imaginary Team Leaderboard

As celebratory and energetic as opening day was in person, the second round of men's play at the Olympic Golf Course felt a bit flat due to morning rain and the wait-and-see mode for Sunday's final. The course also played peculiarly from a scoring perspective, with not much in super low scoring in spite of mostly better playing conditions than round one.

Marcus Fraser leads Thomas Pieters by one and pre-tournament favorite Henrik Stenson by two going into round three.

The real drama will begin tomorrow night as we consider who has a realistic shot at a medal. Had there been a World Cup-style team element, aka the Kuchar Cup, the leaderboard for a two-man aggregate score medal chase would look like this through 36 holes:

1. Belgium: Pieters/Colsaerts   133/139/272
2. Sweden: Stenson/Lingmerth  134/139/273
3. Australia: Fraser/Hend 132/143/275
3. United Kingdom: Rose/Willett  136/141/275
5. Argentina: Gomez/Grillo  137/139/276
6. Spain: Bello/Garcia  137141/278
7. Germany: Cejka/Kaymer 138/141/279
7. Ireland: Power/ Harrington  138/141/279
9. New Zealand: Lee/Fox  137/143/280
9. America 1: Kuchar Reed 139/141/280
9. Canada: DeLaet/Hearn  137/143/280

Play begins again Saturday at 7:30 am local time, 6:30 am ET. For Golf Channel viewers, the telecast is bookended by Live From coverage.
