In golf construction art and utility meet; both are absolutely vital; one is utterly ruined without the other. GEORGE THOMAS
It’s back!
Twenty years later Tatra Press has kindly allowed me to bring back Grounds For Golf now that golf architecture is of more interest to the masses. A new Introduction looks at what’s driven the interest growth and two new chapters I had a blast adding (plus a few edits to keep things up-to-date).

U.S. Women's Open Preview: Long, Hot And Vicious Greens
/
Julie Williams previews the U.S. Women's Open with five essential notes and says The Broadmoor is 500 yards longer than it played in 1995. With the East Course at 7,047 yards this week, Williams notes that this makes it the longest in U.S. Women's Open history. Ben Kimball, director of the championship, says it won't be a big deal for the ladies."Implicated athletes still have plenty at stake in Galea plea deal"

At SI.com, Michael McCann says that Dr. Galea's implicated athletes still have plenty at stake in the plea deal announced Wednesday. Apparently as part of the plea Dr. Spaceman has to share certain information about his suppliers and clients, and McCann seems to think that information has not been shared. While he says the investigators will mostly target suppliers, he notes this about athletes and their leagues.Meet The Anti-Ugly American!

/Thanks to reader Richard for the tip on European Tour player Alex Noren's blog. Over the weekend he posted this priceless Richard Gillot-imitates-Monty You Tube video.
You can see more of Gillot on his website and on a video page showing more of his Monty act and I believe a Miguel Angel Jimenez impersonation too.
"Then the Good Ship Tiger – and thus his event – began taking on water."

/Phil With His Driver On A Bike? Huh?
/Linked with Derek Lawrenson's golf column this week is an uncredited photo of Phil Mickelson launching this week's Barclays Scottish Open for sponsor Barclays by sitting on one of those bikes you can rent in London. Anyone know what the point of this is, besides awkward and unsafe?
Because I gotta say, this is just wrong on too many levels. Unless of course there is a charitable link, in which case I say it's a wonderful image, highly appropriate and frankly, a moving gesture.
