Interesting to hear what caught the eye of some young (and one old) players.
David McNeill of the Belfast Telegraph reports on Rory McIlroy's response to critics of his post-Congressional schedule, though it was hardly the "pop" the headline writer suggested it was.
Lawrence Donegan previews the Scottish Open at Castle Stuart and says the players are already raving about the course and the return of links style golf the week prior to the Open Championship.
Julie Williams previews the U.S. Women's Open with five essential notes and says The Broadmoor is 500 yards longer than it played in 1995. With the East Course at 7,047 yards this week, Williams notes that this makes it the longest in U.S. Women's Open history. At SI.com, Michael McCann says that Dr. Galea's implicated athletes still have plenty at stake in the plea deal announced Wednesday. Apparently as part of the plea Dr. Spaceman has to share certain information about his suppliers and clients, and McCann seems to think that information has not been shared. While he says the investigators will mostly target suppliers, he notes this about athletes and their leagues.
Sean Martin talks to Brendan Steele who played last week's French Open and is in this week's Scottish Open at Castle Stuart. Steele spoke highly of the tournament operation in Paris and had no issues like a certain someone else. And as for why he's venturing abroad? Thanks to reader Richard for the tip on European Tour player Alex Noren's blog. Over the weekend he posted this priceless Richard Gillot-imitates-Monty You Tube video.
You can see more of Gillot on his website and on a video page showing more of his Monty act and I believe a Miguel Angel Jimenez impersonation too.
