Kasich: "Joe Biden told me that he was a good golfer. And I’ve played golf with Joe Biden, I can tell you that’s not true."

Arlette Saenz on Ohio Governor John Kasich's jab at Vice President Joe Biden during the GOP convention, which I read about on Twitter and figured was said in classic golfer-to-golfer trash talk after the team of Kasich-Biden reportedly lost to Obama-Boehner. But the video is a bit creepy. He really is angry about Joe's game!

“Folks, let me tell you this – Joe Biden disputes a lot of those facts, but Joe Biden told me that he was a good golfer. And I’ve played golf with Joe Biden, I can tell you that’s not true, as well as all of the other things that he says,” Kasich said Tuesday at the Republican convention.

Rachel Weinter and Paul Kane note that Kasich's remarks also broke the agreed-upon parameters of last summer's golf summit  inspired by Golf Digest and carried out with class by all parties. Until now.

Still, Kasich’s comments appear to have broken the code of last year’s golf summit, for which all sides agreed not to discuss what happened on the course other than to say that the Obama-Biden team won its $2 bet. When Obama gave a joint address to Congress three months later, Boehner and Biden were caught on a live mic before the speech discussing the speaker’s sub-par round of golf during the August recess at a resort course in Nebraska.

These Guys Are Good, Especially On Twitter Files: Charlie Beljan Edition

There is apparently someone on the PGA Tour named Charlie Beljan who, through the miracle of the all-exempt tour and of course, hard, hard, work, has racked up $424,278 dollars this year thanks to a T3 at Greenbrier (you all remember it!). Best of all, for the real thinkers of society

Obama's Record On Female Golfing Partners Questioned

David Crary of AP, summing up the Augusta National membership controversy this week, notes this about President Obama's suggestion of ANGC needing female members.

Even for Obama, who's both an avid golfer and staunch backer of women's rights, questions of gender equity have arisen. According to Mark Knoller of CBS News — who keeps close track of such matters — Obama has included women among his playing partners only twice in 93 rounds of golf since taking office.

Gloves Are Off: Romney Goes After Obama's Grip!

Jennifer Jacobs reports that Republican hopeful Mitt Romney took a jab at President Barack Obama for his upcoming Christmas vacation and expected multiple rounds of golf.

In a tele-town hall meeting tonight with Iowans, GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney criticized President Barack Obama as someone who “watches affairs and has not guided affairs.”

“The other day I understand that Chris Christie said that he was a bystander president. That he watches affairs and has not guided affairs,” Romney said during the 30-minute telephone call, referring to the governor of New Jersey, who has endorsed Romney.

“And in some respects, his idea of a ‘hands on’ approach to the economy is getting a grip on his golf club. He’s going off for 17 days in Hawaii,” Romney said.

Romney made the comments in this "tele-town hall" from his San Diego, uh, large home.

Turns Out, Obama-Boehner Golf Summit Was Productive!

It seems ESPN dropped the infamous Hank Williams Jr. opening song for Monday Night Football telecasts following comments made by the singer-songwriter on Fox and Friends.

From USA Today's Michael Hiestand:

Says ESPN, in a statement: "While Hank Williams Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize he is closely linked to our company through the opening to Monday Night Football. We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result have decided to pull the open from tonight's telecast."

Williams, perhaps best known for his "are you ready for some football?" lead-in to ESPN's Monday Night Football, Monday compared this summer's so-called golf summit between Obama and House Speaker John Boehner as "one of the biggest political mistakes ever."

As Williams put it on Fox News' Fox & Friends: "It would be like Hitler playing golf with (Israeli leader) Benjamin Netanyahu."

Faced with no longer earning royalties, Williams clarified his comments to TMZ (taking the high road!) and naturally, blamed golf.

Williams Jr. adds, "Every time the media brings up the tea party it’s painted as racist and extremists – but there’s never a backlash – no outrage to those comparisons… Working class people are hurting – and it doesn’t seem like anybody cares. When both sides are high-fiving it on the ninth hole when everybody else is without a job – it makes a whole lot of us angry. Something has to change. The policies have to change.”
