No Way: Reno Tahoe Going To Stableford!

Long rumored and badly overdue on a tour that plays way too many similar formats, the Reno Tahoe event is going to a Stableford format in 2012, reports Dan Hinxman.

"The PGA Tour believes there is merit to this format for Reno," Andy Pazder, the tour's vice president and chief of operations, said in a release. "The modified Stableford system not only promotes aggressive play, which the tournament is already known for, but Montreux lends itself well to this exciting format with its series of challenging finishing holes."

The scoring will work the same way as the International: 8 points for a double eagle, 5 for an eagle, 2 for a birdie, 0 for a par, minus-1 for a bogey and minus-3 for a double-bogey or worse. The American Century Championship, the annual celebrity tournament at Edgewood, switched to a modified Stableford system in 2003.

Uh, for far different reasons.

Either way, great news and maybe one of these days, we could even get the old final-day shootout back? Too greedy? We can dream, can't we?
