USGA's Davis: Solheim's Letter "Really Well Written"

Jim Achenbach rang up USGA Executive Director Mike Davis who complimented PING's John Solheim for not ending any sentences with a preposition and for avoiding double-negatives. But he pretty much shot down Solheim's three-ball concept for the game as the USGA and R&A seem determined to stick to the "one set of rules for all golfers" even as common sense continues to suggest that position is not feasible and perhaps even a road to irrelevancy for the governing bodies.

“I can tell you the letter was not summarily dismissed,” Davis said. “Everybody who saw the letter thought it was really well written.”

This was a more interesting (cryptic?) comment from Strunk and White...errr...Davis.

Still, Davis was complimentary of Solheim. “What John is doing is what all of us have to do,” he concluded, “and that’s look at the long term. I believe all of us have to be open to the future.”

Although, for right now, that future appears to contain one golf ball with one set of regulations.
