Austin Golf Club Spared From Fires, Sort Of

Kevin Robbins shares his observations on the Texas fires, including a report on Coore and Crenshaw's Austin Golf Club where many of Gentle Ben's artifacts are displayed.

This comes from Scotty Sayers, Crenshaw’s longtime friend and business associate. He sent it to me late Monday night:

I crossed the Perdenales on foot and then we went in the back entrance to the club. The par-3 course suffered extensive damage and the course had the roughs and parts of some fairways burned out. Tees and greens survived, but we will be down for a while. The fires got within a few feet of the clubhouse, but it was spared. The superintendent’s house and the maintenance shop were also miraculously spared. AGC allowed helicopters to use water from the storage tank to control the area fires. They seem to be getting a handle on it as of late today. I feel like I smoked ten cigars with all of the smoke I inhaled. It was surreal.

Darrren Gloster at GCA posted this link to aerials of the fire damage from the MyGolfPerformance page.

There is also a GCA thread with updates and reports from Texas.
