IGF Head: “All the presentations have been first class."
/AroundTheRings.com talks to International Golf Federation executive director Antony Scanlon who says he is “extremely pleased with the quality of the submissions” from the last two days of Rio 2016’s course design contest.
“All the presentations have been first class,” Scanlon told ATR on Tuesday after wrapping up the first of two all-day sessions, adding that he cannot comment on any specifics.
The remaining presentations will follow Wednesday with a decision expected by the end of the week.
The IGF has one representative on the jury with the other members coming from Rio 2016, city government and the legacy entity that will oversee the management of the course post-Games.
**Annika talked in general terms about her visit to Rio on Morning Drive. The summary is here.
Earlier this week, Annika Sorenstam went to Brazil to make a presentation alongside Jack Nicklaus to the 2016 Summer Olympic committee on their proposal to design the golf course for golf’s return to the Olympics. She had never been to South America before so it was certainly a very exciting trip. It has been great to work closely with Jack Nicklaus and learn just how much he knows about golf course design. The trip was very quick – just under 48 hours – but it was very exciting and she admitted that she was nervous because this is a big deal and she would be honored to be a part of the 2016 Olympics.
