Our Inevitable May Nightmare Has Been Averted: Ernie Will Not Need A U.S. Open Special Exemption

I've been waiting for a scribbler to pen a story about Ernie Els' Zurich Classic second place finish vaulting him into the top 60 (40th actually), all but guaranteeing him a spot at Olympic Club for the U.S. Open.

Maybe it's the sheer grief over lost columns with the inevitable pleading for the USGA to grant Els a last minute exemption, one that the big, bad Masters failed to hand out?

What will we obsess about now? Maybe a last minute Lee Janzen letter writing campaign? Doubtful.
