Fazio On Renovating His Original Designs: "To take something that originally was so well received and make it substantially superior is a special achievement.”

Longtime readers know I can't get enough of architects getting the job to renovate their designs which probably needed a fine tuning because the original wasn't very inspired. All of the big names have jumped on this new division of the design industry and nothing excites the senses more than reading about a $15 million upgrade after just 20 years!

This time it's Tom Fazio's Emerald Dunes.

The Faz, who is mastering the art of updating his strategy-free but well-hidden cart path designs of the early 90s, is quoted by Golf Course Industry praising who else, but himself!

“Emerald Dunes has always been one of my favorite courses and I was pleased to be invited back to make some strategic enhancements to one of the most highly regarded clubs in Florida,” said Tom Fazio.

Strategic enhancements. Hmmm...I thought strategy was for the "so-called" Golden Age architects? Go on...

“Emerald Dunes is truly a gem and with the recent improvements it’s an even more dazzling jewel.  Although it’s hard to imagine, we’ve upgraded the quality of the overall golf experience by ten-fold.  With the addition of soft shell paths, native vegetation and an expansive short game area, the dream keeps getting better.  To take something that originally was so well received and make it substantially superior is a special achievement.”
