430 worldwide wins and 59 major championships

October 17, 2013, ORLANDO, FLORIDA – Jack Nicklaus headlines a field full of golf’s biggest legends when the PNC Father/Son Challenge tees off for the 15th time, Dec. 12-15, 2013, at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Orlando, Grande Lakes in Florida.

The family-oriented event, held for 14 years from 1995-2008, made a triumphant return last season with new title sponsor, The PNC Financial Services Group, Inc. Davis Love III and his son, Davis “Dru” Love IV, hoisted the Willie Park trophy and return as defending champions this year alongside past winners and legends of the game including Larry Nelson (2004, 2007-08), Bernhard Langer (2005-06), Hale Irwin (2003), Raymond Floyd (1995, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001) and Nicklaus (1999), who will play this year with son, Jackie.

The 2013 field grows from 18 to 20 teams, with most legends teeing it up alongside their sons except for Bernhard Langer, who will play alongside his daughter, Christina Langer, and Fuzzy Zoeller, who will tee it up with daughter, Gretchen Chappo.

Stewart Cink and his son, Connor, and Nick Price and his son, Greg, are set to make their PNC Father/Son Challenge debuts this year.

“We are elated to once again showcase a first-class and expanded field at the 15th playing of the PNC Father/Son Challenge,” said Alastair Johnston, vice chairman of IMG, co-founder and producer of the event with NBC Sports. “Thanks to the strong support of PNC, and the many players and families who have been a part of the tournament for years, we will once again offer a family-focused atmosphere and the opportunity for fans to see their favorite legends in a unique format.”

Live television coverage of the PNC Father/Son Challenge will air on Golf Channel from 2 to 4 p.m. Eastern Time and NBC from 4 to 6 p.m. Eastern Time on Saturday, Dec. 14 and Sunday, Dec. 15. Dan Hicks will serve as play-by-play announcer alongside Gary Koch, Steve Sands, Roger Maltbie, Notah Begay III and Jimmy Roberts.

“We are extremely proud of our heritage as co-founder of the Father/Son Challenge,” said Jon Miller, President, Programming, NBC Sports and NBC Sports Network. “Through the collective efforts of our partners at PNC Bank, Ritz Carlton and IMG, families nationwide can now share in one of the most special events in golf.”

The 2013 field also boasts 430 victories across the PGA and European Tours, including 59 major championships, and 12 World Golf Hall of Fame members.

To qualify for the PNC Father/Son Challenge, participants must have won either a major championship or Players Championship in their career. The professional’s partner must not have held a Tour card at any point, and while the majority of partners in the history of the event have been the sons of the golf legends, the family-themed tournament has seen a daughter and grandson participate over the years. In one poignant exception in 2008, a close family friend also participated when Payne Stewart’s son, Aaron, teamed up with Paul Azinger, Stewart’s long-time friend. The 20-team field competes in a scramble format over 36 holes for the $1 Million prize purse and the Willie Park trophy, named after Willie Park, and his son Willie Park Jr., who combined to win the British Open five times.
