Tiger Likely To Skip Match Play At Dove Mountain

Barring an unforeseen desire to play some really wild Jack Nicklaus greens one more time, Tiger Woods seems primed to pass on the WGC Accenture Match Play at Dove Mountain.

Bob Harig reports:

It would be just the third time since the event's inception, and first since 2010, that Woods would be a no-show. Woods, 38, has won the tournament three times, but not since it moved to the Golf Club at Dove Mountain near Tucson, Ariz., in 2009.

Adam Scott and Phil Mickelson are also not playing and many other players are in question. You may recall that it snowed last year at Dove Mountain and that it was voted the second worst course on the tour by the players, even though it was created for this event. Golfweek's Forecaddie has reported this to be the final year for sponsor Accenture.

While it's a sad way to go out and will mark the end to a west coast swing with star-depleted fieds (gee, who would have thought that would happen?), perhaps these issues will provide an opportunity to reboot the event.

We'll get to that later, but for now, it's shaping up to be a Tiger-less WGC Match Play.
