Video Beware: British Pathé Archives Now On YouTube

Billed as the "the world's finest news and entertainment video film archive," British Pathé began recording every aspect of global culture and news with the moving image's invention in the 1890's. They've now put 85,000 newsreels on YouTube and for a golf historian, there are some gems to look at. Beware though, it can be a terrible use of time!

Here is their channel page, which is currently sporting a most-viewed list topped by Arnold Schwartzenegger and the Hindenburg's demise.

This is the "golf" search listing. The range of videos covers everything from old Open highlights, to Masters reels, no shortage of Bobby Jones and even some early Bob Hope Classics. And so much more.

A few that caught my eye, starting with President Dwight Eisenhower getting snippy over a question of using helicopters to deliver him to a round of golf.

Quick look at the Old Course from the Home hole looking back toward the railway station.

In the must-embed department, there seemed to be a fascination with handicapped golfers, including this most viewed piece on the golfer with no arms (and smoking too). Unfortunately his opponent tries to hand him his ball back.

There was an apparently revolting invention of a golf bag on wheels.
