R.I.P. Wesley Mensing

Plainfield CC Director of Instruction Wesley Mensing and 30-year-old Erin Sauchelli were struck by an unlicensed New York City driver Saturday night, killing Mensing and hospitalizing Sauchelli.

In 2014 27-year-old Mensing was named as one of Golf Digest's Best Young Teachers In America.

Plainfield Country Club Director of Golf Scott Paris said he had hired Wesley Mensing as the club’s first-ever director of instruction last year. Though Mensing was just 26 at the time, Paris said he was struck by his maturity and easygoing, good hearted demeanor.

“His ability, the way he handles people — he was just such a class act,” he said. “The way he handled people, and then his combination of skill and passion as a golf instructor was very rare.”

Mensing was active on Twitter and just posted Christmas wishes a few days ago. Deepest condolensces to his family and friends for such an inexplicably tragic loss.
