Webb On U.S. Open: “You know, we’ll play for second (place).”

Much Players Championship chatter revolved around the upcoming U.S. Open and the already high irritability factor fueled by a cumbersome venue and lingering tension over recent U.S.G.A. setups.

But it was Mike Davis' recent suggestion that those who merely show up tournament week are "done" really riled up the boys. You know that when Webb Simpson is dropping mildly flippant comments, as he did prior to the Wells Fargo Championship.

The News Tribune's Todd Milles reports.

“I heard what he said,” Simpson said. “You know, we’ll play for second (place).”

That is not to say Simpson is taking the national open lightly. He echoed a reality concerning players who are East Coast-based, or coming over from Europe.

“I can’t get out there,” Simpson said. “It’s not exactly easy to get there from the East Coast.”

Done!
