Guardian: IOC Likely To Extend Golf To 2024 Games

The Guardian's Ewan Murray quotes an anonymous source at the International Olympic Committee suggesting it would be a huge surprise of golf is not confirmed for the Games beyond 2020, meaning a 2024 inclusion will be confirmed early next year.

He writes:

A source at the International Olympic Committee said it would be “very surprising” if golf is not afforded an extended run. The IOC meets early next year for a standard review and to announce what sports will feature in the 2024 Games.

Given the negative publicity going into the Games and the positive publicity coming out of Rio, it would be surprising if golf was not extended. Particularly with the players and course providing nice accompanying stories to the overall Olympic picture, not to mention big ratings for the final moments of the men's medal competition.

Now it's a matter of format and schedule work to be done.
