Caroline Spotted With Ring A On Her Finger...

Sarah Bull reports what appears to be a false alarm in the Willziroy Engagement Date Pool, but for reasons you might not expect. Caroline Wozniacki, accompanied by Rory McIlroy to Brisbane as she begins her Australian Open preparations, was sporting the ring on her left hand.

Bingo, if you had Christmas in the pool, right?

However, it's also tradition for Danish women to wear their engagement and wedding rings on the right hands, indicating that perhaps Caroline is not set to wed her golfer beau, but suggesting the jewel may have just been a recent Christmas present.

**Robert Craddock reports Caroline's quotes that the ring went on the finger where it fit best and, considering her first round loss at Brisbane...

Caroline Wozniacki can count herself lucky she got a precious new ring for Christmas ... it may be the only trophy of substance she touches for some time.

And on the ring...

"It was a Christmas present and it fit on this finger and I put it on," she said.

"Twice we have already had to shut down engagement rumours. Don't worry, we will let you know if that happens."

What is our business, then? These people put themselves out there and make millions not only on their talent -- when did Miss Wozniacki last do something fabulous in tennnis? Out in one to a qualifier in Brisbane -- but on their putting themselves about. They sell their celebrity, and let their talent take whatever course it may while they work out their hormonal challenges, which may or may not mean sleeping in and getting time zones wrong or being too wrung out by flying about to each other's trophy events.

My interest in McIlroy is how he plays. My interest in the tennis player is non-existent. And if their relationship affects his game, he's off my radar too. Meantime, updates are both useful and amusing. And fair game, to coin a phrase. It's not exactly a discreet relationship. She has all but said she expects the proposal.
