2017 PGA: Round Two This And That

We're off and sweating here at Quail Hollow, where another enormous gallery has turned out early to watch the marquee Rory-Rahm-Rickie pairing.

Day one proved to be tricky for most of the field,

The greens were noticeably slick Thursday, I explored that for Golfweek with comments from Koepka and Spieth.

Jaime Diaz looked into the difficulty of Quail Hollow as arguably the season's toughest major test (so far).

Media notes from Golfweek's Martin Kaufmann.

The weather forecast? Still ominous but Thursday was perfect and Friday is better than had been expected earlier in the week.

TV viewers held hostage by Rory-Rahm-Rickie. Other "feature" is Kuch-Rose-Kirk.

At the moment, cut's looking like +4.

TRYING to watch Kuch etc. PGA streaming no better than yesterday. If I were Omega, which is tarred with "resenting" this crap, I would ask for my money back. It's a disgrace.

I am fast becoming under the impression that McIlroy is only interested one tournament in April - and maybe an Open in his home country. He looks like a guy just having an average stroll in the woods with a mate tagging along for lols.

"Feature groups" need to be gone. Reset coverage and website.

This is the US Open that never materialized this year.

With a few exceptions -- if I've heard of you -- you are likely bad at your job. Or at the very least, overrated. Example: PGA Chamionship online "presence".
If you've heard of someone they are likely bad at their job? Or they are likely bad at their job if you haven't heard of them?

Either way, that was an interesting way of writing a statement that is dumb regardless of how it is interpreted.

@FC + 1

Agree about the feature groups. I'd rather see them grouped together by playing well into the weekend.

I want to shout out to Westwood One's radio coverage--they are always the most interesting and exciting way to follow a tournament, which is just so impressive. It makes the event feel full of unpredictable action and drama, which TV always seems to work hard to squish into a predefined box.

You are a tremendous slouch. Now read the whole statement, there are qualifiers.
The seldom seen leader -8.
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterFC
Afternoon "feature groups" are dumping, while others are moving up.
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterFC
Anybody catch the Lucy Li match yesterday? Probably the most entertaining golf on TV.
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterDon
I can't wait for Chris Stroud and Oleson to duke it out on Sunday. The ratings for that would be under 1.0. Can't watch the tnt stream because I don't have cable and like everyone else said, the pga app is circa 2008 technology. Guess I'll have to wait til April to watch a major.
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterCottriab
Cottriab, I'm not sure they'd show them. Take note of mystery men Kisner -8 and Olesen -4. There's little professional about the PGA.
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterFC
FC that would be hilarious of they just weren't shown. I wonder what major in the last 10 or 15 years showed the least of the leader on the final day. Shaun micheel? Ben curtis? At least ben's was a back door win, so there is some excuse. This leaderboard looks like a tour event.
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterCottriab
Haven't /wont watch the stream.

TNT is no golf/ sports source- blame them on the lousy group, leader coverage, lack of, not PGA.

Must say, on my way BACK to hospital to repair a bleeding surgery hole (!) this morning, I saw a very nice feature on a friend, Omar Uresti, who bought a Persimmon McGregor (sp)from me back a while, and won the Morocco EPGA event quite a while back. Never very successful for 4 rounds, he said he just played too much, a real issue for players who cannot see how ~not playing~ will earn then a higher spot on the money list. He is 2 over after 2 rounds, and we'll see how the weekend pans out.

Anyway, to my friends. keep the cards and prayers coming folks; surgery successful, findings- not so much.... Round 327- ding!

Here we go, another 20-minute shot for Spieth.
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterFC
Spieth continues his tree assault, as mystery man Matsuyama assumes 2nd place at -5.
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterFC
Brooks K, a 259 yd 3 iron, come on. Jordan Speith, too much time, again, TNT, sigh...just not doing it for me this tourney. And we wait on Jordan again...can these pros not just play the game? Please don't say the money.

Don't really wish to be so negative, but there's little that I see to be positive about. Minimal player coverage, slow play, super fast greens = boredom.

08.11.2017 | Unregistered Commentermeefer
Of Matsuyama, "you shake his hand now and you'd get a 3rd degree burn." I'm outta here.
08.11.2017 | Unregistered Commentermeefer
I just saw Matsuyama! His was holding his ball soon after play was suspended.
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterFC
Jordan should have played the hole with a bat, rake and shovel. Better chance of making par.
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterRomeo
Cut headed toward +5.
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterFC
The cream finally starting to rise. I take back my comment.
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterCottriab
What's the tournament this week? Interested, might watch.
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterOriginal AG
I'm read too many complaints... you'd think this was a major and not just another Wells Fargo Championship or something
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterDrBunsenHoneydew
I'm watching the WAM IN Chila Vista. Qtr final on hole 25.
As they say, it's match play now.
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterZimmer
Playing hole 26 now.
This guy Shane is way better than Buck.
Tell Mike Davis!
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterZimmer
Wu drains a 60 foot putt for birdie
Now on to hole 27.
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterZimmer
Bad coverage, terrible app, boring course. Over it already.
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterEM
The action is on FOX Sports Network
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterZimmer
On to hole 29
08.11.2017 | Unregistered CommenterZimmer
Hole 30

Women's Am was better TV two days in a row.

The little kid brother caddy was priceless.

+1 Chico I am seeing some good golf on a tough course.

Did anyone else notice that the quality of golf improved during the couple of holes they play fast trying to beat the darkness?
08.12.2017 | Unregistered CommenterConvert
The fire drill as the horn approached was pure entertainment. Maybe there is something to not overthinking every shot. Good thing John Daly wasn't involved in al that running or there might have been a fatality.
