Tara Sullivan tweeted the basics on the "misunderstanding":
**Ryan Ballengee offers this follow up, saying it was a female security guard that turned Sullivan away.
“This was a complete mistake,” Ethun said Sunday night after Sullivan’s tweet of the situation caused somewhat of a stir. ”It was the enforcement of a policy that does not exist.”
Sullivan said no members of the club were on the scene to clarify the situation.
"He just said women were not allowed and there was no official in sight," Sullivan said. By the time she located McIlroy's manager, the interview had been completed.
Ethun said the club hires a number of people to work the tournament and the guard was apparently unaware of the equal-access policy.
"It should not have happened," he said. "We will work as hard as we can to make sure it does not happen again."
** Sullivan pens a column explaining what happened. Sounds like the club handled it well, a guard made a mistake and it's only (but deservedly) a big story because the club doesn't have any female members.
