It's hard to know what to say about Merion's 11th hole setup based on this aerial other than to hope the flyover distorts the width or that the fairway line has been modified since this was shot.

Otherwise, I think it's safe to say this is the poster child for what the game has become in the modern distance era along with a statement about what happens when the distance the ball goes renders architecture irrelevant. Also remember that with split tees players will be opening their rounds on Thursday and Friday to a blind landing area that can't be more than 20 paces wide.

Ron Whitten wrote about the potential flooding scenario that would rule out use of this hole and the auxilliary plan the USGA has should such a situation occur.
