The Donald Wants To Bring The PGA To Virginia

Barry Svrluga looks at The Donald (Trump)'s purchase of Lowes Island Club's two courses, the redesign since and the possibility of luring a PGA Championship to the facility.

Donald Trump said his 860-acre facility could handle 150,000 fans, and there would be room to park “thousands of cars” — though access to the course, which sits off Algonkian Parkway in Sterling, could be difficult for that much traffic. The course has ample space for grandstands, concessions, merchandise and luxury tents, but there are some holes on which there would be long walks between one green and the next tee.

Still, Trump is undeterred.

Meanwhile, back on the planet earth, the French Lick Resort's Pete Dye course just landed the 2015 Senior PGA, a much better way to lure the PGA of America than personal declarations of greatness. Throw in the whole flyover state allure for the PGA, the potential for stifling heat, and it sounds like French Lick is in!
