Hogan Tour Turns 25: "The first season"

With the Web.com Tour season under way (nice win by golf course developer Mathew Goggin!), Sean Martin uses the kick off to look back 25 years ago to the inaugural season and event in Bakersfield.

There are great memories supplied by, among others, Olin Browne, Tom Lehman and Brandel Chamblee. And the accompanying photo of Ben Hogan with Deane Beman launching the tour only reinforces how incredible it was to have Hogan's support, and how much has been diminished by some of the "brands" that have since been the tour's namesake.

Martin also writes:

The 1990 Hogan Tour offered five PGA TOUR cards; now 50 cards come through the Web.com Tour. There were 30 events in that inaugural season. All of them were 54 holes and offered a $100,000 purses. Each winner received $20,000. Jeff Maggert was 1990’s leading money winner with $108,644.
